Privacy policy

Your info stays between us.

I only collect what I need to make and ship your print, answer your notes, and send the newsletter if you ask for it. I never sell it. Here's exactly what happens to it.

The short version

I never sell your info
Not to advertisers, not to anyone.
Checkout runs on Shopify
I never see your full card number.
Email only if you ask
Unsubscribe anytime, in one click.
Want it deleted?
Email me and I'll take care of it.

What I collect

When you buy a print or gift card: your name, email, shipping and billing address, phone number if you add one, and what you ordered. Payment is handled by Shopify's secure checkout, so I never see or store your full card number.

When you send me a note: whatever you put in the Contact or Work With Me form, usually your name, email and message.

When you join the newsletter: your email address, and whether you open or click the emails.

When you browse: basic technical info your browser sends to every website, like your IP address, browser type and the pages you visit. I use this to keep the site running and see which photos people like.

How I use it

  • To make, ship and track your order, and send you order and shipping emails.
  • To answer your questions and set up custom sizes, licensing or projects.
  • To send the newsletter, only if you signed up for it.
  • To handle returns, store credit and gift cards.
  • To keep the site secure and working well, and to keep records the law requires, like sales tax.

That's it. I don't sell your personal info, and I don't share it for advertising.

Who helps run the site

A few trusted services help me run things. Each one only gets what it needs to do its job:

  • Shopify runs the shopping cart, checkout and payments. My print shop checkout is also used by my other site, avila-beach.com, so it's the same secure store. See Shopify's privacy policy.
  • The print lab and shipping carrier get your name and shipping address so they can make your print and deliver it.
  • Formspree delivers the Contact and Work With Me forms to my inbox.
  • Mailchimp sends the newsletter.
  • YouTube plays the videos on the site. If you press play, YouTube may set its own cookies.
  • KnownHost hosts the website.
  • Google Analytics shows me how many people visit and which pages they look at.

I may also share info if the law requires it, or to protect my business or someone's safety.

Cookies

Cookies are small files your browser saves. This site uses them to remember what's in your cart, keep checkout secure, and count visits. YouTube and Google Analytics may set their own. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, but the cart may not work without them.

Your choices and rights

You're in control of your info. Just ask and I'll:

  • Tell you what info I have about you.
  • Fix anything that's wrong.
  • Delete it, except what I have to keep for orders, taxes or the law.
  • Take you off the newsletter. There's also an unsubscribe link in every email.

California residents have these rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act, and I'm happy to honor them for everyone. I'll never treat you differently for asking. Send requests to jay@jayolsonphotography.com and I'll reply within 45 days, usually much sooner.

Keeping it safe

Checkout and the site use secure encrypted connections (HTTPS), and I keep only what I need for as long as I need it. No system is perfect, but I take reasonable care to protect your info.

Kids. This site isn't meant for children under 13, and I don't knowingly collect their info. If you think a child has sent me something, let me know and I'll delete it.

Changes to this policy

If I change how I handle your info, I'll update this page and the date below. Big changes will also go in the newsletter.

Questions?

Email me at jay@jayolsonphotography.com or use the contact form. I read every note myself.
